President Asif Ali Zaradri has approved 100% increase in travelling and daily allowances of the Supreme Court judges. This was requested by Supreme Court of Pakistan and Prime Minsiter Nawaz Sharif approved the request.
According to the notification daily allowance of Supreme Court judges has been increased to Rs. 5000 from Rs. 3000 and travelling allowance has been enhanced from Rs6 per km to Rs12 per km. daily allowance of High Court judges has been raised to Rs. 4400 from 2400 in special cases whereas in ordinary cases it has been increased from Rs. 2000 to Rs, 4000. Travelling allowance of High Court judges are increased in a same manner like Supreme Court judges i.e. Rs. 12 per km from Rs. 6 per km.
However it is pertinent to mention here that travelling and daily allowances of Supreme Court judges were last revised in 2008 and for High Court judges it was last revised in 2009.
Many on social media started criticizing Supreme Court for this and said that these judges are also like politicians who uses peoples tax money for their enjoyment. However some people said that the decision is right as from the last few years there was no increase in judges allowances.
